Budget & Professional FAQsHow does Total Control work?
Total Control is a software program written using HTML, PHP and MySQL and installed on your web hosting package. When a user connects to your web site, a PHP script is run that connects to a MySQL database that holds all your style and content information. The script then converts this data into standard HTML instructions that are downloaded to the user's browser. When you logon to your site via the Administration page, you can update the style and content settings within the MySQL database. All changes are instantaneous allowing you to update your site easily in real time. The choice of style combinations allows you to design or customize your site to look exactly as you want.Back to top
Is support supplied in case I run into problems?
Support is included, both online and offline. There are 2 levels of online support. Each feature within Total Control includes a brief description of the feature and for greater detail, there are separate context related help pages describing features, accessible from a help button located at the top of each editing page. Offline support is available by e-mail or telephone within office hours.Back to top
Is anything else required for a Total Control website?
The only other thing required is a domain name. All you need do is transfer your domain name to us, or if you don't have one, we can secure one for you.Back to top
Does Total Control include hosting?
Yes. As standard Total Control comes with a web hosting package with 50Mb of webspace and 1Gb per month transfer allowance. If you require more webspace or bandwith, we can accomodate you.*Total Control Budget comes with a web hosting package with 10Mb of webspace and 100Mb per month transfer allowance.

Yes. If you decide you need more web pages or a shopping cart then you can upgrade anytime and we will only charge you the balance between Budget and Professional or Cart over the time remaining on your account.Back to top
Do I need to know any programming languages or how to upload web pages?
No. All normal operations within Total Control are carried out by drop down menu choices, radio buttons, check boxes and text fields. Operation is straightforward and intuitive and your changes are displayed immediately. When editing text a WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) text box is used that supports bold, italic, font colour etc and is similar to the editor used within Outlook Express or Word.Back to top
Does Total Control include a spell checker?
The text editor does not come with a spell checker installed. However, a download is available from www.iespell.com and this can be obtained by clicking the button marked "Get ieSpell" below your text input area (this button will change to "Check Spelling" once ieSpell is installed). Simply download and install the software and spell checking is available from the "Check Spelling" button below your text input area.Back to top
Can I have a form reply page so that site visitors can forward me their details?
Yes. You can create as many form replies as you require on any page without any knowledge of HTML programming. Forms can be set with required fields and to send the contents to any email address that you choose and include any of the available widgets (except file upload). This allows for complex, tailor made enquiry forms.Back to top
Can anyone else make changes to my web site?
No one else can alter your site unless they have your logon details or you choose to allow them to. Total Control includes a feature that allows you to create remote editors that can update the content of pages that you have allocated to them. All other changes to the site can only be carried out by the Administrator and remote editors can be removed at any time. The system uses encrypted passwords for logon so is therefore very secure.*The remote editor feature is not available with Total Control Budget.

Can I only update my website from my own computer?
You can update your website from any computer that has an internet connection, as can any remote editors that you choose to create - Total Control is only installed on the server, not on your own machine, so there's nothing you need to download or install.Back to top
Do I need a special browser to logon and update my site?
No. Total Control requires only Internet Explorer V5.5 or upwards to display all the available options. Total Control will run in other browsers but some features such as the WYSIWYG text editor will not work, therefore we recommend Internet Explorer v5.5 or greater.Back to top
Are my web pages viewable in all web browsers?
Yes. Total Control outputs standard HTML instructions that can be viewed in all standard web browsers.Back to top
Will my pages appear the same in all browsers?
All web browsers display standard web pages slightly differently therefore Total Control is no different in this respect. Total Control uses style definitions to display fonts, font effects and borders and these are displayed correctly in V5+ browsers. 95% of users have Internet Explorer V5+ and all the styles used will display correctly. For the other 5% some aspects of style, such as font effects, will not display. Also font face styles rely on the user having that font installed on their machine - if they don't then a default font will be displayed instead. Although not all style features may show in a minority of browsers, an acceptable alternative will be displayed and all your content will be visible.Back to top
What about accessibility for disabled users?
Total Control automatically creates a text only version of your site based on the content that you enter into the graphic version of your site. The text version, in almost all cases, conforms to Priority 1 accessibility guidelines laid down by W3C and should in many cases conform to Priority 2 accessibilty guidelines (depending on the content that you enter into your site).Back to top
Is it possible to put shopping cart buttons, like Paypal, or site counters within pages?
Yes, the text input area of the Content Management section can be switched between WYSIWYG and HTML, allowing you to paste HTML code or JavaScript within the content areas of your pages. As long as the code is OK with no missing tags it will work perfectly.Back to top
Is a visitor counter included?
Yes. All pages that you create include a vistor counter that logs the date and time that visitors enter a page, their browser type and version, their platform, screen resolution etc. Statistics can be viewed over selected time periods as bar charts to allow you to view trends.Back to top
Is it possible to link to another page on the site other than through the site menu?
Yes, within the text input area of the Content Management section is an option to insert a link to a page on your website as well as link to other external websites. Total Control allows you to create pages and set them to be hidden from the site menu. This is useful where you require many pages but don't want them to appear on the site menu, but instead link to them from other pages that do appear on the site menu.Back to top
Is it possible to allow site vistiors to download Word of PDF documents from my website?
Yes, within the text input area of the Content Management section is an option to insert a link to any kind of document file that you've uploaded to your online library.*The Document Library feature is not available with Total Control Budget.

What is an RSS feed?
RSS feeds are files written in XML that website owners can place on their servers. These files can be read by feed readers and typically display headlines, short descriptions and a link that takes the user to complete articles on the website owner's website. Total Control allows you to paste RSS feeds within content areas of your site. All you need do is go to the page that displays the RSS feed you require and copy the address of the feed from the address box in your browser. Then go to the content area where you want the feed to appear, click the button marked "Add an RSS Feed to This Content Area" then paste the address of the feed into the text box marked "URL of RSS Feed". Next fill in the maximum number of items from the feed that you wish to display and fill in any credits you wish to display below the feed.*The RSS feature is not available with Total Control Budget.

Is it possible to create a page with a thumbnail image that clicks through to a page with an enlargement of the image?
Yes, this can be done in the following way. First create a page called, for example, enlargement. Then set this page to be hidden from within the Page Management section of the Administration page. Next insert your full sized image into the enlargement page. Now create a page, which will show on your site menu, to hold the thumbnail image. You can now create a link that says, "Click to Enlarge", within the caption below your thumbnail image that will link to the enlargement page. If you want more than 1 thumbnail image then create a number of enlargement pages with appropriate links from the thumbnail captions.*Total Control Budget allows the creation of up to 12 pages.

How do I set up the navigation links to the pages of my site?
You don't need to, this is handled automatically by Total Control. Navigation links take their names from the names that you give to pages and appear in the navigation menu in the order that they're created. If you wish to change the order of links in the navigation menu, this is option is available and easily accomplished.Back to top
Can I easily delete unwanted pages or content if required?

You can alter the Meta title, description and keyword tags on all pages that you create. This allows you to optimize your pages to give them the best chances of being found on search engine listings.Back to top
How many styles of website can I create?
Again this is only constrained by the amount of web space you have, but you can create more than you'll ever need. The number of variations of style is enormous due to the number of choices available.Back to top
How difficult is it to switch from one style to another?
All that's required is to select the required style from a drop down menu within Style Management and click the GO button - this changes the style on your site instantaneously.Back to top
Do I have to create a style from scratch?
You can do this if you wish or select a built in style from those available. You can alter a built in style to suit your needs and restore it back to its default settings if you don't like the results.Back to top
When I alter a style will site users see the changes before I'm happy with it?
Total Control allows you to set a style for your live website while you work on another. When you're happy with it, you can set your live website to the new style.Back to top
If I alter my style will it affect my content?
No. Style and content are handled separately by Total Control. No matter which style changes you make, your content will remain unaltered.Back to top
When a user logs on to my site will it download quickly?
The main factor that affects download time is the amount of content that you put within pages and particularly the file size of images that you use. Try to keep image file sizes small and don't use .bmp images. Also try not to put too many images on one page. Built in background images do add to download time, however their size has been optimized and therefore will not add significantly. If you're concerned then logon to your site and hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard whilst clicking refresh. This will force the browser to load the page from scratch and give you a good idea of the download time.Back to top

How can I embed a Flash movie into my pages?
For an embedded Flash movie to work you need two things. The .swf object file and the HTML object code fragment that loads and runs the movie. Firstly upload the .swf object file to the document root of your webspace using FTP (if you don't have an FTP logon contact support). Secondly go to the required page within Content Managament and click the "Edit Text" button. When your text is displayed, click the "View HTML Source" icon. This will show your content as HTML. Find the place in the content where you require the Flash movie and paste the object code fragment. Although the Flash movie won't appear in the text area of Content Management, it will appear on your site.Back to top

Does Total Control Cart include all the features of Total Control?
Yes. Anything you can do with Total Control you can do with Total Control Cart but with the addition of a shopping cart that allows you to run an online store.Back to top
How many products can I have on my site?
The only thing that restricts the number of products you can have is the amount of web space you have and in the case of Total Control Cart this is 75Mb. This allows you to create as many products as you'll ever need. Variants of products can also be created. This is useful if, for example, the product comes in different sizes and you don't wish to display all the sizes as separate products but instead as a single product with one image and description and with a select menu that allows customers to choose a size.Back to top
Can products be moved from the page they are on once created?
Yes. Products can easily be moved from page to page and the order of products within pages can also be changed.Back to top
Can the details and prices of products be easily changed?
Yes. Shopping Cart Administration allows you to change the name and description of any product at any time and product prices can be altered from within the Inventory section.Back to top
How is shipping calculated?
Shipping is automatically calculated by adding together the weight of all the products in the shopping cart. The product weights are set from within the Inventory section and the cost of the shipping weight bands are set from within the Shipping section. Different costs can be set for different countries and whatever countries have been set, will be displayed to customers on a select menu within their shopping cart.Back to top

Shopping cart style can be altered from within Shopping Cart Management to match whatever style your web site is set to.Back to top
Does the cost of Total Control Cart include credit card processing?
If you decide on the Paypal payment solution then there is no upfront fee, only Paypal fees apply. You only need to sign up to Paypal, which is Free. For more details visit the Paypal website on www.paypal.comIf you decide on the Protx payment solution then you must sign up to the VSP form PROTX payment solution for which they charge a monthly fee.
