Dynamic HTML Tooltip

On the left is an example of how DHTML can make a web page more interactive. This example allows the user to mouse over areas of the picture which triggers a tooltip to appear with text and graphics explaining the component parts of the machine.

This technique is useful since it allows a lot of information to be squeezed into a very small space without the user having to scroll up and down the page. It also downloads very quickly.

This is the balance wheel. Although the machine is treadle powered, this handle can be used to power the machine also.

This is the bobbin spindle which holds one of the strands of thread which go through the needle.

This is the throat plate where the material is gripped and passed under the needle.

This is the bobbin winder where thread is transfered onto the small metal bobbins which fit under the throat plate.

Egyptian themes were all the rage at this time, ever since Carter´s discovery of Tutankamun´s tomb.

The work light was added when the machine was electrified in the 1950s.
